Pennies for the Blind made its first donation on October 8, 2019. We work with a support group for the blind and visually impaired in Kokomo called the Wise Owls. We were able to present support canes to four people. Three are losing their sight and and never had a cane before. The fourth person is completely blind and needed a new cane. I (Natalie) was blessed to get to attend the meeting. It is wonderful to know the group is still determined to do as much as they possibly can without any help. They all lift each other up and want to make a difference by raising awareness for people who are blind and visually impaired not just in Kokomo, but all over. At the meeting, a question was asked about what you will never get used to while not having sight. One answered that he will never get used to knowing it is sunny and steeping outside to see pitch black. We can be a metaphorical light in people’s darkness.
