May 6, 2022: Diabetic Retinopathy (DR)

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is the leading cause of blindness in adults 20-74 years old in America. In 2010, 7.7 million Americans were diagnosed with DR. The National Eye Institute has predicted that the number will raise to 14.6 million by 2050. Diabetic Retinopathy deteriorates blood vessels in the retina, near the back of the eye, of those with diabetes. DR can be prevented in early stages, but is usually not reversible. Treatments include laser treatments and eye surgery.  For more information, please visit https://www.nei.nih.gov/learn-about-eye-health/eye-conditions-and-diseases/diabetic-retinopathy#section-id-10531..
